Design Fiction

floodlands and dyeworks

In this research seminar hosted by RIBA Yorkshire at Square Chapel in Halifax (12th December 2016), we will reflect on the ongoing recuperation of psychogeography in speculative design practices.

This is the first seminar in a series which will explore the convergence of architecture and fictive materialities at the intersections of accelerationist critique and anarcho-capitalist politics – after the so-called ‘speculative’ turn to the post-futurological.

Mobilising the 1957 Venetian dérive of Ralph Rumney, who was psychogeographical with industrial dye, the seminar involves participants in a speculative and pragmatic auguring of the urban borderlands, floodlands and a micropolitics of dyeworks in the upper Calder valley.
